Barranquilla is getting a major boost to its cultural and entertainment scene. Mayor Alejandro Char confirmed that the city will soon have its own Movistar Arena, a modern venue designed to host concerts, sporting events, and large-scale experiences.

Announced on December 24, 2025, during the city’s annual accountability hearing, the project marks a new chapter for Barranquilla’s infrastructure and tourism development.

A World-Class Venue for Barranquilla

The new Movistar Arena Barranquilla will hold over 13,000 spectators and will be located beside the iconic Ventana de Campeones on the Gran Malecón. The area has become one of the city’s fastest-growing hubs for sports and urban development.

The arena will be managed by the same team behind the Movistar Arena Bogotá, in partnership with TuBoleta for ticketing and event logistics. This ensures the Barranquilla venue will meet international standards from day one.

How the Project Began

The idea of creating a Movistar Arena in Barranquilla dates back to early 2024, when the city government signed an agreement with Puerta de Oro and Investment A&B. That deal launched feasibility studies and site evaluations for the new structure.

Mayor Char explained that Barranquilla is ready for global-scale venues that match its growth: the new Arena will place the city on par with Colombia’s biggest cultural destinations.

Economic and Cultural Impact

The Movistar Arena Barranquilla is expected to generate hundreds of jobs during construction and operation. It will also attract national and international events, boosting local businesses, tourism, and hospitality.

Located on the scenic Gran Malecón right the Aleta del Tiburón monument, otherwise known as the Sharkfin, the venue will connect seamlessly with other attractions, enhancing access and visibility across the Caribbean region.

While specific construction dates and investment details remain under wraps, this announcement confirms a major strategic step for Barranquilla. The city is positioning itself as a leading cultural and entertainment hub, mirroring the success of Bogotá’s Movistar Arena.
